I urge every Pentacle member to read all the letters I have posted, to see why I firmly believe something very wrong happened with the board's handling of the CD project, and that the future stability of the theatre is in jeopardy when business is conducted in this manner.

This letter was written in response to my September 10 letter announcing the cancellation of the "Metropolis" cast CD - Randy Bowser

Statesman Journal September 13, 2003

Complaints about theater off the mark

As the chairperson for the playreading committee responsible for the 2003 Pentacle season, I would like to address Randy Bowser’s Sept. 10 letter complaining about Pentacle Board and the compact disc for “Metropolis.”*

Randy is a talented and hard-working individual but surely not the only one. His comments about the hours of labor for “Metropolis” can be said of hundreds of other productions.

Musicals are considered special projects and need to have a committed director bringing the project to the playreading committee and, if chosen, the entire season is arranged around them.

Bowser was accepted for directing “The Mikado” for 2004. Directly after season announcements and season ticket sales, Mr. Bowser announced publicly in this paper that he was withdrawing from “The Mikado,” leaving the board to find another director or scrap the play.

Coming to Pentacle asking them to subsidize the production and release of a CD that he would monitor and sell after reneging on such a large commitment and then complaining publicly when he does not get what he wants, seems, well, “unfortunate.”
